Privacy Policy

Last updated: 6 July 2026

Timezoned (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a timezone-comparison app published by Jesse Townsend. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information. In short: Timezoned works entirely on your device and does not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data.

The short version

  • No account, no sign-in. You never give us your name, email, or any identity to use the app.
  • No analytics, no advertising, no tracking. We do not embed ad networks or usage-tracking SDKs.
  • Your data stays on your device. The timezones, profiles, colors, availability hours, reminders, language and settings you create are stored locally on your phone.
  • The only times the app talks to the internet are through Google Play - to process the optional one-time PRO purchase, and to show Google's in-app rating card. These are operated by Google, not by us.

Information the app stores on your device

Everything you set up in Timezoned is saved locally (in the app's private storage) so the app remembers it between launches:

  • The cities/timezones you track, their colors, custom names and availability hours
  • Your profiles (e.g. “Personal”, “Work”) and their settings
  • Reminders you schedule (title text and time) - these fire as local notifications; no reminder data leaves your device
  • App preferences: appearance, clock format, language, home timezone, and similar

This information is not transmitted to us or to any third party. Uninstalling the app, or using Settings → Reset Preferences → Fresh Install, deletes it.

Device backup

If you have Android's automatic backup enabled for your device, your Timezoned settings may be included in your phone's backup to your own Google account (Android Auto Backup). This is a feature of Android controlled entirely by your Google account settings - the backup goes to your account, not to us, and we cannot access it. You can turn device backup off in your phone's system settings.

Payments (Timezoned PRO)

Timezoned offers an optional one-time in-app purchase (“PRO”). Purchases are handled entirely by Google Play Billing. We never see or receive your payment card or billing details. Google tells the app only whether a valid PRO purchase exists on your Google account. Google's handling of your purchase is governed by the Google Play Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.

Ratings

The app may occasionally ask you to rate it using Google Play's official in-app review feature. That card is presented by Google Play; any rating or review you leave is handled by Google under its own privacy policy. We do not receive personal information through it.

Bug reports you send us

If you use Settings → Report Bugs, the app opens your own email app with a message pre-addressed to us. So we can reproduce the problem, the draft includes basic technical details: the app version, your device model, your Android version, your selected app language, and whether PRO is active. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send the email, and you can edit or delete any of it first. We use the contents of bug-report emails only to diagnose and fix issues, and we retain them only as long as needed for that purpose.

Permissions the app requests

  • Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) - to show reminder notifications you schedule.
  • Alarms (USE_EXACT_ALARM / SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM) - so reminders fire at the exact time you set, even while the device is idle.
  • Run after restart (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) - to re-arm your reminders after the phone reboots.
  • Vibrate (VIBRATE) - for haptic feedback.

None of these permissions collect or transmit personal data.

Children

Timezoned is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children.

Third parties

The app relies on Google Play services (for billing and the in-app review card). We do not integrate any other third-party analytics, advertising, or data-collection services. Google's privacy practices are described at policies.google.com/privacy.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected in a new app release's notes.
